In 1752 Benjamin Franklin carried out his famous experiment with the kite, attaching a metal spike to the kite and a key at the bottom of the string, proving that the key became electrically charged, he also demonstrated that the environment was also electrically charged and that Lightning is nothing more than sudden discharges of this energy.

From then until nowadays science has not gone much further in protection against Lightning strikes. The scientific community has centered attention in obtaining maximum benefit from that rudimentary point-tipped mast of the XV111 century, the so named  Franklin–Rod , finally developing devices with greater Lightning attraction ability to try to ensure at least, the point of Lightning strike. However the development of this technique provokes an increase not only of the possibilities of Lightning falling on the desired point, but also an increase in the electrical activity in the area.
